Phnom Tamao Zoo welcomes ...

Phnom Tamao Zoological  Park and  Wildlife Rescue Center is located about 45 kilometres from the southern part of Phnom Penh, traveling along  the National Road Number  2 and continue another 5 kilometres down a dirt road at the right. Phnom Tamao Zoological  Park and Wildlife Rescue Center Site is a popular destination for weekend travelers from Phnom Penh and other sites in Cambodia. It features mountains, the biggest national  zoo and wildlife rescue center, and some ancient temples. The site is popular for the local visitors as well as foreigners because many species of wildlife are collected and it's the only official wildlife rescue in Cambodia. Phnom Tamao Zoological Park and Wildlife Rescue Center was officially opened by Prime Minister Hun Sen in the year 2000.
The entire area of Phnom Tamao covers 2,285 hectares which is treated as protected  forest area. Most of the animals at Phnom Tamao Zoological Park and Wildlife Rescue Center are endangered rare species and are confiscated from traffickers or saved from poachers traps which are too sick or too young to be survived in the wild, so they are kept to be taking care  and Phnom Tamao Zoological Park become their permanent residents. Phnom Tamao Zoological Park and Wildlife Rescue Center is the home for at least 96 of birds,  mammals, and reptiles, in a total of around 1,000 animals. Visitors would have to walk or it is better to ride on a motorbike and stop, between enclosures of animals around the zoo. It takes about two and half hours' time to generally travel.
